I find much joy in teaching, so send me an email to begin discussing time, availability, and rates (all of which is flexible).
The main points of my teaching philosophy…
I believe that we can build character through music. Music lessons should be about more than just learning how to play technically, but should also teach us virtues such as patience, diligence, kindness, and humility. Mentoring younger students is my greatest joy; I want to help guide them on their way, just as countless teachers have done for me.
Every student is different, so I’ll teach to each student’s strengths and goals. I recognize that not everyone wants to become a professional musician, so we’ll have those discussions, but I’ll still push you to be your best! With increased skill comes increased enjoyment.
Sound concept is the most important aspect of trumpet playing that we can develop, therefore I’ll spend time modeling exercises and music for you.
Just as they say “the best writers are the best readers,” we say “the best musicians are the best listeners.” Learning to listen well to professional recordings is essential for understanding style and sound. Also, learning to listen to yourself is crucial to growth, since I can only be with you one hour per week. I want to give you the tools to grow in both of these areas.
